Easle, find the best creative freelancers

Finding work when you are an independent creative can be a struggle. That’s why after hearing stories from their creative friends, Scott Wooden and Nick Law decided to start Easle, a new online platform allowing freelancers to showcase their work and clients to discover and hire the best creators and artists.

Scott and Nick state that “Easle is specifically for the creative arts. The focus for us is on quality across the platform, rather than super low price point, and we’re taking the vetting process seriously for creators and clients alike. We have also built a unique system for handling incoming work, allowing both sides to seamlessly negotiate a proposal through conversation and have it paid for within minutes.”

At the moment, Easle focuses on showcasing the work of some of the best illustrators across the world although Scott and Nick have received applications from creatives working in all types of fields and they’ve noticed “corners of creativity that felt lost online without a true place for them to show off their work with the opportunity to get hired. There’s no reason why Easle can’t support more niche creative outlets.”

Easle is currently comprised of an initial group of 50 illustrators. Scott and Nick have intentionally decided to keep strict limits on numbers with the idea that every illustrator on the platform should be seeing a significant amount of work coming through on a monthly basis.

Easle is open for applications, free to use and takes 10% of the negotiated fee.

  • Typodarium Calendar 2016

    Typodarium Calendar 2016

Typodarium 2016 is a tear-off calendar, just like the one our grandmas used to hang in the kitchen, but this calendar unveils a new font everyday. On the front, the font is prominently displayed, and on the back it’s described in more detail – how it originated, from what or who came the inspiration and where we can obtain the font. Typodarium 2016 is published by Verlag Hermann Schmidt Mainz.

  • Minimalissimo Magazine

    Minimalissimo Magazine

Following a successful Kickstarter campaign, the first issue of Minimalissmo Magazine is out. Minimalissmo started in 2009 as an online publication championing the best of minimalism, touching on many areas including art, architecture, fashion, graphic, packaging and industrial design. The driving force behind the website and the magazine is Edinburgh-based designer and editor Carl MH Barenbrug.

As we read in the welcome note from the editor, “the first printed issue is dedicated to highlighting some of our favourite features over the past six years as well as exploring the minimalist design ethos and its influence on creativity”.

The first issue discovers, among others, Danish architecture studio Norm Architects, fashion designer Rad Hourani, director of Vitsoe Mark Adams and Swiss artist Zimoun.

  • Enrich & Endure Aprons

    Enrich & Endure Aprons

We already introduced Enrich and Endure on our blog but since then Sarah and Lorcan Quinn have been rethinking their business. Formerly a homeware brand working with Irish linen and wool, Enrich and Endure now focus on creating artisan, made to last aprons.

While their direction changed slightly, the ethos ethos remains the same – quality materials, longevity, local craftsmanship and top-class design. Both Sarah and Lorcan are big foodies and their passion for the industry can be seen in their work.

    Enrich-and-Endure-Our-Story-013

“The apron idea first came about while we were still involved in the homewares. Basically we really admired and respected the work of our favourite coffee roaster/cafe in Dublin and had always wanted to collaborate with them and so designed them aprons for their baristas. Word of mouth soon spread that we were designing customised Irish linen aprons and so when more and more restaurants and coffee shops started to approach us about working together we began to think seriously about the idea of aprons” – says Sarah who is mostly involved in the design and production.

“After around 6 months of development we decided to go for it full steam ahead. We really love it. We are constantly on the road meeting restauranteurs, chefs and coffee shop owners, getting to see behind the scenes of what they do and seeing first hand the passion they have for their craft. I’m sure you will agree, working with like minded creative people is so much fun”.

  • Offscreen Magazine

    Offscreen Magazine

We picked up Issue 12 of Offscreen magazine on our recent trip to Berlin’s Do You Read Me?! and spent a couple of mornings reading it from cover to cover, enjoying every sentence.

As you can read on the magazine’s website, “Offscreen is a high-quality print periodical with an in-depth look at the life and work of people that use the internet to be creative and build successful businesses.”

The print quality and design are beautiful but what makes this magazine extra special is its content. There are many great features and articles in this issue but we especially enjoyed reading the interviews with Matt ‘Mills’ Miller from ustwo (digital studio behind the Monument Valley game) and Jason Fried, the Co-founder of Basecamp, in which we can find out more about their humble beginnings starting their own companies.

We love the idea of the magazine showcasing the human side of digital and encouraging its readers to put their laptops and phones down, taking a break and slowing down. Kai Brach, its founder, deserves a round of applause for creating this very unique publication.
