The Top Things to Do in London This Summer

London is a city that really comes to life during the warmer months. It is busy and fun throughout the year, but there is something special about the capital during summer. There are fun things happening all over London and transport to the capital is easy with trains arriving from all over the country and the underground network making it quick and easy to get around. Whether you are a local or visiting, here are a few events that you will want to add to your diary.

Join London Pride

Pride events take place throughout the capital during June, but London’s Pride Parade takes place on July 1st and this is an event that you will not want to miss! This parade will start in Hyde Park and end in Whitehall Palace and will be a fantastic celebration of Pride with breathtaking floats, marching, live music and other forms of entertainment, making it a brilliant day out and a great cause.

Watch Wimbledon

Of course, Wimbledon is always a major highlight each summer in London. You might be able to get tickets by queuing on the day, but be warned that you might have to wait for several hours and possibly even overnight. Alternatively, there will be plenty of venues with big screens showing all of the action allowing you to enjoy a few drinks and soak up the sun. A few places where you will be able to watch Wimbledon on a big screen include Canary Wharf’s Summer Screens in Canada Square Park, Covent Garden Market and Granary Square.

The Greenwich & Docklands International Festival

The Greenwich & Docklands International Festival takes place between August 25th and September 10th and is a brilliant outdoor theatre and performing arts festival celebrating modern art. There will be all kinds of highlights, but one that has people talking already is the “Cygnus” glowing animatronic swans that will perform water ballet on the Royal Victoria Dock.

Notting Hill Carnival

Notting Hill Carnival is always one of the biggest events of the summer bringing around 2 million people to the streets of West London for a lively Caribbean party over the Bank holiday weekend in August. Notting Hill has colourful parades, loud sound systems and parade bands, tantalising Caribbean cuisine and much more to keep you entertained.

Cinema Alfresco

If you are looking for a quieter experience then an outdoor cinema could be a great option. There are many places that show open-air movies over the warmer months, which can be a magical experience. A few places showing films outdoors this summer include The Luna Cinema, the Rooftop Film Club and the Barbican.

These are a few events in the capital this summer for your diary that you won’t want to miss out on!
