    Fibra Casa Editora

Fibra Casa Editora is an independent publishing project founded by Buenos Aires-based Flavio Ariel Affonso three years ago. We discovered Flavio’s work with Fibra last year and a few weeks ago we exchanged some emails with him to know a little more about this interesting project.

“Fibra is a recent project, an independent publishing house with focus on hunting and collecting fiction moments on everyday life. It’s a personal experiment moved by an amateur and mutant enthusiasm.  I started to do projects to learn how to do it – edition, design, printing, distribution, launches, producing, sales. That’s how the Sponge Collection started, focused on short stories, poetry and drawing.

After that, I wanted to do something with all the wonderful photographers I knew from Cíclope, the online magazine I edit, so I started with the Sr. Dalton collection, a series of  zines printed in monotone. I also started to interview some people I know from  across on the web and on the streets, that’s how Explora started, to know a little more about the person behind the work.

Nowdays I’m more concentrated in turning Fibra into a content generator, collaborating with other people or companies, but always as an amateur. I’m more interested in the process than the final achievement, because I believe that the best thing to do is to learn about the different ways of doing something”

No F****** Around In Room 427

No F****** Around in Room 427 is a fashion film commissioned by online menswear store The Great Divide and shot by filmmaker Danny Sangra.

Some fashion films tend to be boring for people who are not that interested in the clothes, but this short film avoids this, focusing on the plot and creating a memorable and hilarious story.

  • Ziggy Aeroplane

Two young designers, Amy Dolan and Fiona Purves, are bringing their products together and hosting a Pop-up Shop in Edinburgh, to celebrate their businesses’ first birthdays.

Amy rescues old, forgotten pieces of vintage furniture and gives them a new lease of life through lots of TLC and fun blocks of colour. Fiona is the owner of stationery business Paper Aeroplane. Inspired by life’s little quirks, she uses her colourful and playful hand-drawn illustrations and lettering to create cards and prints that are to be treasured forever.

The pair came together after Fiona saw our short documentary film about Amy and Ziggy Sawdust, which is great to hear!

This is the first time that the full Ziggy Sawdust and Paper Aeroplane ranges will be shown in their entirety and the main aim the project is to reflect on the exciting year both businesses have had, and also act as a way to start their second year of trading on a positive note.

“The first year in business is notoriously the hardest, but the fact that we are still here and still extremely passionate about what we do is something we feel to be worth celebrating”, says Amy. “We don’t want our Pop-up Shop to just be our products in a space. We want to create an engaging environment that people can walk into and really get a sense of what our businesses are all about. We want to take this opportunity to show you what it is we are capable of.”

    One Question Interview: Fer Pérez

Fer Pérez is the editor of arts, fashion and music website The Youthquake. From their brand new office in Santiago de Chile, Fer tells us what has been the best moment for The Youtquake so far.

The Youthquake’s best moment isn’t actually a punctual moment but a series of circumstances that have made the website grown so much more than what I would have ever thought. It is every single project we develop, every brand we support and all the little things we do.

Actually, another really good moment has been renting our new office – we’re so happy in here!

  • Alex Gibbs at Superclub

Alex Gibbs, currently exhibiting at Superclub gallery in Edinburgh, is the topic of this short documentary film by Adrienne Childress. The exhibition, Rich Living and Sunny Life, is a large collection of works on paper (and other suitably insubstantial materials), presenting a paradoxical co-existence of a naive utopia and sinister dystopian society. This environment is explored through paint, pencils and wax crayons.

Untitled from Alex Gibbs on Vimeo.

The exhibition runs until 30 April.
